Blogging is a great way to connect with like-minded people, create relationships, and build a strong customer base through value and trust.
You need to have a way of communicating with your followers in addition to your blog, and this is where a good email campaign comes into play. Now Reading: How To Capture More Leads With Your Blog! Click To Tweet
Whether you want to run a newsletter with regular scheduled updates, provide valuable content to your readers, or just randomly reach out and stay connected, the first step is to get them to subscribe to your email list.
There are many different ways to capture leads on your blog, see if you can relate to any of these:
1. The Pop Up
This one is the most annoying to me since most websites use it at the wrong time. A pop up window asking me to subscribe to your list before I have even had a chance to see the content is a little presumptuous. Show me great content..then ask for my email address. If you need to use a pop up, use the exit pop or put it on a 10 second or so time delay.
2. Opt-in forms as a widget in the sidebar
This one is the standard..and I personally like this option. If the design captures attention and it is positioned in the upper right hand corner of the page, these can be effective.
3. Follow bars or Sliders
These types of opt-in forms can also be effective. These are the type of thin bars that follow you down the page as you scroll, or slide in from one direction or another once you start to navigate the page. I have experimented with both, and had the best results with the follow bar.
Note: If you use any plug-in or third-party software to capture leads on you blog, MAKE SURE it integrates with a major email marketing platform such as Aweber, GetResponse, or Mail Chimp.
Now let’s take a look at a strategy I have been using lately to capture leads on my blog with great success. I call it the “in line” strategy and here is how it works:
How To Capture Leads Using In-Line Placement On Your Blog
The beauty of this strategy is that the opt-in form becomes part of the original content. In other words, it’s not in the sidebar, follow bar, or a widget in the sidebar..it is actually worked in to be part of the content the reader is reading.
You are placing the call to action and the opt-in form directly into the readers natural eye path which increases your chances of them reading the copy and engaging.
You do not want to use this strategy on every post! The call to action copy should be related to the content it is being combined with. For example, if you are writing a post on how to generate leads and you have a great give away for lead sources, that would be a great tie in with that article.
What You Need To Use This Lead Capture Method
1. You need an email marketing platform such as Aweber or GetResponse.
2. Create the text or copy for your call to action..some sort of hook to get the reader to subscribe. I like to do this in notepad so I can copy and paste it when I need it. Use either a giveaway, a free course, or additional free training..some sort of value to persuade the reader to subscribe to your list. Whatever you choose, make sure it matches up with the content you are using it in.
3. Create the opt in box people will use to put in their name and email address (see video)
4. Place the call to action directly below where the original piece of content ends..making it appear as the start of another paragraph.
5. Place the opt-in form directly below your call to action
I put together a training video showing you step by step exactly how to use this lead capture strategy and how it should look when it’s done.
How To Implement This Lead Capture Strategy
This lead capture method may look a little bit complicated at first, but with the use of notepad for writing out your copy and using the script option for embedding your web form, it’s basically just a matter of practice and tweaking until you get the hang of it.
